949 Trees Uprooted in Bengaluru Due to Heavy Rain Over One Month

Bengaluru has experienced significant damage to its urban greenery due to heavy rain and strong winds over the past month. The Greater Bengaluru Authority Forest Division reported that 949 trees and 2,066 branches were uprooted between April 29 and May 29. The West Zone was the hardest hit, with 330 trees and 919 branches falling, followed by the Central and South Zones. Forest Department personnel have been actively involved in clearing the debris, with 923 trees and 2,004 branches already removed. However, work remains for 26 trees and 62 branches.

Rainfall has persisted in various parts of the city, including Koramangala, Uttarahalli, and Vijayanagar, leading to traffic congestion during peak hours. Despite the widespread tree falls, no loss of life has been reported. In Koramangala, trees collapsed near the BDA Complex, while in Uttarahalli, a tree fell on an electricity line, causing a temporary power outage. Other affected areas include Sheshadripuram and Vijayanagar, where civic officials are conducting clearance operations.

Banaswadi recorded the highest rainfall at 3.2 cm, with other areas like Nagapura and Peenya also receiving significant rainfall. The ongoing weather conditions have posed challenges for city infrastructure, but the authorities are working to manage the situation effectively.
