Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy Resigns, Criticizes CM Shivakumar Over Portfolio Allocation

Karnataka Minister for Water Resources, Ramalinga Reddy, has announced his resignation from the state Cabinet, citing dissatisfaction over portfolio allocation by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Reddy, who will continue as a Congress MLA, expressed his disappointment at not receiving the Bengaluru Urban portfolio as promised. The resignation was announced from his office in Koramangala, Bengaluru, a day after the portfolios were allocated. Reddy alleged that he was initially promised the Bengaluru Development portfolio in 2023 but was instead given the Transport portfolio. Despite assurances from senior leaders, including former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Reddy was persuaded to accept the Water Resources portfolio with a promise of receiving the Bengaluru Urban portfolio after 2.5 years. However, this promise was not honored, leading to his resignation. Reddy, a veteran Congress leader, has been active in politics since 1973 and has served in various ministerial roles under different chief ministers. He has been elected multiple times from Bengaluru constituencies, including Jayanagar and BTM Layout. During his resignation announcement, Reddy was urged by party workers to reconsider, but he insisted on proceeding with the resignation process.
