Kunal Kamra's Bengaluru shows shifted to Koramangala's Underground Comedy Club after Hindutva protests force Whitefield venue cancellation

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's Bengaluru shows, originally scheduled at URU in Whitefield from August 3 to 6, have been relocated to The Underground Comedy Club in Koramangala following pressure from Hindutva organisations who sought police intervention to cancel the performances. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Karnataka and Hindu Rashtra Samanvaya Samiti submitted memorandums to Bengaluru police alleging that Kamra had repeatedly insulted Hindu beliefs and that permitting the shows could disrupt communal harmony and law and order. The Whitefield venue subsequently cancelled the event.

Following the venue shift, the two organisations extended their campaign to Koramangala, approaching local police with similar demands. Koramangala police, however, stated they found no issue with the content of the shows and clarified that no police permission was required for the performances, though organisers had informed them in advance as a precaution.

Kamra responded publicly on X, defending his act and challenging members of the protesting organisations to a debate on comedy and culture at the Whitefield police station. He later posted a photograph from outside the station, claiming none of the protesters had appeared for the discussion.

At least one show over the weekend went ahead at The Underground Comedy Club in Koramangala amid heavy police deployment and heightened security. Ticket holders from the original Whitefield bookings were offered the option of a full refund or rebooking for the new venue. As of the latest reporting, no official order has been issued to stop the remaining performances, and the shows are set to continue through August 6.
