Chennai Police Commissioner Orders Immediate Complaint Acknowledgement

Acknowledge complaints without delay, Amalraj tells city cops

Chennai's new commissioner of police, A Amalraj, has directed city police to ensure that complainants visiting police stations receive their community service register (CSR) acknowledgments without unnecessary delays. This instruction comes after Amalraj conducted a series of surprise inspections at police stations across Chennai, including those in Arumbakkam, Anna Nagar, and other areas. Currently, CSRs are often delayed as station-level officers await instructions from higher authorities, leading to frustration among complainants.

Amalraj emphasized the importance of prompt service and instructed officers to provide adequate seating for complainants and to issue CSR acknowledgments at the earliest. He also advised against making complainants return multiple times to obtain their receipts. During his inspections, Amalraj interacted with officers to understand the challenges they face in handling public grievances and sought feedback from complainants on their experiences at the stations.

In addition to addressing the CSR issue, Amalraj instructed officers to maintain cleanliness at police stations and remove old vehicles that occupy space within the premises. He also called for intensified efforts to prevent crimes against women and curb narcotics-related offences. Officers were advised to identify vulnerable locations within their jurisdictions and enhance surveillance through increased police patrols and personnel deployment in sensitive areas.
