Sri Lankan Woman Killed in Chennai After Bar Brawl Leads to Car Attack

An 18-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil woman named Yancy was killed in Chennai after a car rammed into her bike following a bar brawl. The incident occurred late Saturday night near Thirumangalam. Yancy and her five female friends had visited a star hotel in Koyambedu, where they drank and danced. A group of young men joined them, leading to an altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation. Security personnel intervened, escorting both groups out of the premises. However, the dispute continued outside, resulting in another heated argument and assault. As Yancy and her friends rode towards Thirumangalam, the rival group followed them in a car. During the chase, Yancy threw a stone at the car, prompting the occupants to accelerate and ram the twowheeler. Yancy died on the spot from head injuries, while her 17-year-old friend was critically injured and admitted to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. The suspects fled the scene but were later arrested by police using CCTV footage and vehicle registration details. The suspects include Balaguru, Suman, Sakthivel, and another accomplice. Yancy was a resident of the Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp in Villupuram and had recently come to Chennai to visit her friend. Her mother, Mary Stella, expressed her grief and desire for justice. Police are investigating the events inside the bar that led to the clash and have sealed the establishment.
