Mylapore Police Secure 20-Year Sentence for POCSO Offender

A special POCSO court located within the Madras High Court campus has sentenced a 59-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, with an additional three-month imprisonment if the fine is not paid. The incident occurred in 2021 in the Mylapore police district, where the young survivor was subjected to sexual assault by the accused. The Mylapore All Women Police Station promptly registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant legal provisions. Following a detailed investigation, the police arrested the accused, who was 55 years old at the time, and remanded him to judicial custody. The investigation was spearheaded by the Inspector of the Mylapore All Women Police Station, who led a team that meticulously built the case. The final report was submitted to the special POCSO court, which found the accused guilty and delivered the sentence. Senior officials have praised the Inspector and the court duty team for their thorough investigation and effective presentation of witnesses, which played a crucial role in securing justice for the minor survivor.
