Disabled Man Detained for Attempted Bike Theft in Velachery

In Velachery, Chennai, a migrant worker with mental disabilities was detained by local police after allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle parked near a hotel on the 100ft Road. The incident occurred on Monday when the man, reportedly in an inebriated state, tried to unlock the motorcycle using a key he had. The owner of the motorcycle noticed the attempt and confronted the man, leading to a heated argument. The altercation attracted the attention of passersby, who accused the man of theft. A section of the public allegedly restrained and assaulted him, resulting in injuries to his face. The disturbance caused traffic congestion on the busy road for approximately 30 minutes. Police intervened, detained the man, and after conducting an inquiry, released him with a warning.
