Massive Fire at Pallikaranai Dump Yard Guts Over 100 Cars

A significant fire erupted at the Pallikaranai dump yard in Chennai on Thursday, leading to the destruction of over 100 seized vehicles. The fire spread rapidly to a nearby vehicle holding area, where the cars were parked under the control of the Greater Chennai Corporation. Thick black smoke from the fire blanketed several parts of south Chennai, including Pallikaranai and Velachery, causing discomfort to residents and reducing visibility. The incident also resulted in heavy traffic congestion along the Medavakkam–Velachery stretch as motorists navigated through the smoke-filled area. Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded swiftly, deploying multiple fire tenders and water tankers to contain the blaze. Despite their efforts, the fire caused extensive damage before being brought under control. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the blaze.
