Mylapore AWPS Secures 20-Year Jail Term for POCSO Offender

A special POCSO court located in the Madras High Court campus has sentenced a 59-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl. The verdict, delivered on Thursday, also includes a fine of Rs 10,000, with an additional three-month imprisonment if the fine is not paid. The case originated in 2021 when the young girl was assaulted in the Mylapore police district. The Mylapore All Women Police Station promptly registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant legal provisions. Following a comprehensive investigation, the police arrested the accused, who was 55 years old at the time, and presented him before the court, leading to his remand in judicial custody. The investigation team, led by the Inspector of the Mylapore All Women Police Station, meticulously gathered evidence and filed the final report to the special POCSO court. The court found the accused guilty, resulting in the 20-year sentence. Senior officials have praised the Inspector and the court duty team for their exemplary investigation and presentation of witnesses, which were crucial in securing justice for the minor survivor.
