Tamil Nadu Woman Stranded in Oman for 15 Years Receives Emergency Certificate

Hazar Nisha, a resident of Mylapore, Chennai, has been stranded in Oman for 15 years due to the loss of her passport and other identification documents in a house fire. The incident left her unable to return to India, despite her efforts to obtain new documentation. Nisha's plight began when she moved to Oman for domestic work 18 years ago. After a brief visit to India, she returned to Oman, where a fire destroyed her passport and resident card. Without these documents, she was unable to leave the country.

Nisha's situation worsened when her husband died in a vehicle accident, and she was unable to return to India to see his body. Over the years, she worked various domestic jobs in Oman while trying to secure the necessary documents to prove her Indian citizenship. Her attempts were hampered by the lack of identification records, as her old ration card was the only document she had.

The turning point came when KMCC leader Rafeeq Sreekandapuram and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay intervened. Their efforts, along with the cooperation of Indian and Omani authorities, led to Nisha receiving an emergency certificate. This certificate will allow her to return to India and reunite with her family, including her two children, whom she has not seen for many years.

Nisha's story highlights the challenges faced by expatriates who lose their identification documents abroad. Her case was further complicated by the lack of digital records and the destruction of her home in India, which resulted in the loss of additional documents. With the emergency certificate in hand, Nisha is now preparing to return to India, where she hopes to rebuild her life with her family.
